EducationUSA centers in Nigeria provide accurate, comprehensive and current guidance on accredited U.S. colleges and universities to highly qualified students from both rich and poor families. Through our cohort and Opportunity programs, advisors identify academically talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and assist them in identifying appropriate U.S. institutions, advise on how to strengthen their applications and provide guidance on accessing scholarship and financial aid.

EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program
Description: There are many determined and talented, low-income students in Nigeria who only require financial resources and access to information to better their educational future. The United States Embassy, Nigeria seeks to identify academically qualified and highly motivated, low-income students in Nigeria to join the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP). OFP’s mission is to assist talented and determined, low-income students who are good candidates for financial assistance from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the financial resources to cover the up-front cost of obtaining admission.
Deadline: June 15
Eligibility Requirements: The selection of finalists for OFP is highly competitive, given limited funding. We look for applicants with: Strong academic record/ transcript Robust participation in extracurricular activities Involvement in leadership roles Excellent community service participation Financial Need
Competitive College Club (CCC)
Description: The competitive College Club is an EducationUSA program that will assists Nigerian high school students who want to apply to competitive US universities; it provides guidance in the admission process for highly selective US universities that will meet each student’s academic and financial need. Students will meet monthly and participate in lectures, book clubs, community service activities and test preparation. The activities will help ensure that students are properly advised as they go through a process of preparing themselves both academically and socially for a US university and find schools that might be a good fit.

Eligibility Requirements: Selections are made through an application process and through the membership program of the EducationUSA Advising Center. The EducationUSA advisors will solely decide on who qualifies for the CCC.

Program Highlights

EducationUSA Annual College Fair
Description: The education fair provides a platform to connect U.S. educational institutions with prospective students and create opportunities for partnership between U.S. and Nigeria higher institutions. Almost one thousand four hundred students registers and participates in the fair. The Consular officer are available to talk about student visas and navigating the application process. Over the years, the EducationUSA annual fairs have directly contributed to an increase in the number of highly qualified Nigerian applicants to U.S. institutions.
Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO)
Description: The U.S. Embassy EducationUSA Advising Center organized a Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) for students admitted to U.S. colleges and universities for the fall semester. More than 140 young men and women, members of the EducationUSA, who have received offers of admissions and scholarships were sent-off during a four hour PDO session .
