Opportunity Funds
Description: The EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program assists highly qualified students who are likely to be awarded full financial aid from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the financial resources to cover the upfront costs of obtaining admission, such as testing, application fees, or airfare. This program promotes the State Department’s objectives of broadening outreach to youth and undeserved audiences, advancing mutual understanding, and supporting social inclusion.

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the Opportunity Fund Program, the student must meet the following requirements: - Citizen or legal permanent resident of Colombia - Financial need - Strong level of English - Demonstrated leadership activities - Commitment to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree in the U.S., starting studies in August/September 2021 (if accepted and awarded full financial support from the U.S. institution and/or other sources) - Commitment to work closely with an EducationUSA Adviser and participate in all virtual and in-person advising sessions Successful applicants will be highly qualified students with outstanding grades, extremely strong spoken and written English, demonstrated leadership, and limited financial resources to pay for the cost of the application process to universities in the U.S.
The Fulbright program
Description: Fulbright is a program of the United States Department of State, present in 157 nations of the world, that has benefited more than 360,000 people chosen based on their academic and professional merits, giving them the opportunity to study, teach and research but, before everything, to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to global challenges and interests. The Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States and Colombia, Fulbright Colombia, was established on January 8, 1957 through an international treaty between the two governments. Its mission is to promote intercultural knowledge, scientific and investigative cooperation and development through advanced training of leaders with a high degree of social commitment. Approximately 80 Colombian professionals receive Fulbright scholarships each year to undertake graduate studies, research, teach classes at universities, and participate in other professional and academic activities in the United States . Likewise, more than 50 Americans, among students, researchers and professors, come to Colombia every year as Fulbright scholars.

Eligibility Requirements: - To be a Colombian citizen (not to have Colombian-American dual citizenship). - Not have or be processing residence, citizenship or US work visa. - The GRE is required for all candidates who wish to study for a doctorate in the USA, regardless of the scholarship to which they are applying. No minimum score is required. - The candidate must have a professional university degree from a program with a minimum duration of four (4) years. Must have graduated before December 31 of the year prior to the call. Technical or technological program degrees or degrees after the indicated date are not accepted. - Letters of recommendation written in Spanish or English during the call. - Fulbright accepts academic documents in Spanish during the call - It is necessary to demonstrate an intermediate-advanced level of English, that is, a B2 level in the Common European Framework. To apply to the postgraduate scholarship calls, the candidate must take one of these three exams: TOEFL iBT, TOEFL ITP, and Academic IELTS, remember to review the required score for the scholarship to which you want to apply. Any other English certificate the previous ones will not be considered valid. All these exams are valid for 2 years.
