Employment and Internship Information

EducationUSA program officers are hired through the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The U.S. government's federal job registry, USAJobs.gov, announces these civil service positions. U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Officers are also part of EducationUSA's core Washington, D.C. staff and implement EducationUSA advising activities internationally. Internships: EducationUSA hosts several in-person internships throughout the year (fall, spring, and summer). Prospective interns apply through the U.S. Department of State's internship website and should note their interest in EducationUSA in their essay. If unable to relocate to Washington, D.C. for an internship, students can also explore a virtual internship as a Virtual Student Foreign Service Intern. EducationUSA works with several virtual interns annually on projects for the Washington, D.C. office, as well as for EducationUSA advising centers around the world. Projects include everything from graphic design and social media to working with centers on special regional international student recruitment issues.

 

U.S. students planning to study abroad or spend time overseas may contact an EducationUSA center to discuss the possibility of internship positions. Please note that students are responsible for researching any country visa regulations related to volunteering. 

 

The Institute of International Education (IIE) hires staff for the Global EducationUSA Services team. Staff, such as Regional Educational Advising Coordinators (REACS), are located overseas. However, other positions are based in Washington, D.C., including interns. All IIE positions are posted on the IIE website.
